In short In Brazil, the first four months of the year are consistently weak for party rentals, with reported drops of up to 50% in January. The peak is October, November and December, with a second peak in June and July. Whoever buys equipment on peak-season cash without reserving for January pays instalments with an empty calendar.

Figures measured by L2 Mídias

Seasonality curve of the Brazilian party rental market
Peak in October (Children's Day, 12 October), November and December; second peak in June and July (festa junina season); consistent low from January to April, with reported drops of up to 50% in January Jul 2025 to Jul 2026
Weekly concentration of party volume
Around 90% of volume occurs on Saturday and Sunday; weekdays are weak Jul 2025 to Jul 2026
Weather effect on demand in the niche
A 70-80% chance of rain suppresses demand for inflatables and water units; weekend rain increases demand for indoor-use trampolines; long holiday weekends tend to be weak because families travel Jul 2025 to Jul 2026
When promotion for the Children's Day peak begins
Promotion starts 1 September, focused on schools and residential complexes, for the 12 October date Jul 2025 to Jul 2026

“January through May, yes, heavy going.” The line came from a decorator, but it describes the whole year of almost every children’s party operation in Brazil.

The sector’s seasonality is among the most predictable there is — and precisely because it is predictable, suffering through it is a planning choice.

Note for readers outside Brazil: this is the southern hemisphere calendar. January falls in summer holidays and the school year starts in February, which is part of why the first months are weak.

The shape of the year

PeriodHow it behaves
January to AprilConsistent low; January drops up to 50%
MayGradual recovery
June and JulySecond peak — festa junina, mechanical bull, water units
August and SeptemberStable, with peak preparation
OctoberBiggest peak of the year — Children’s Day, 12 October
November and DecemberSustained peak — staff parties and year-end

Two layers add to the annual curve:

The week. Around 90% of volume happens on Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays are weak all year — which makes them the natural space for promotions without burning the rate card.

The weather. A 70-80% chance of rain suppresses demand for inflatables and water units. Weekend rain, conversely, increases demand for indoor-use trampolines. And long holiday weekends tend to be poor: families travel rather than throw parties.

The mistake that turns a low season into a crisis

Buying equipment in September, on peak-season cash, without reserving for January.

It is the sector’s most common sequence: the October-to-December peak creates the sense that the business has taken off, the new unit is financed, and in January the instalment continues while the calendar empties. Add what squeezes household cash in the same period in Brazil — vehicle tax, school supplies, start-of-year bills — and the low season becomes a squeeze.

The fix is managerial rather than marketing: the strong month funds the weak one, and the reserve has to be set aside while the money is coming in.

What to do in each phase

PhaseWhat to doWhy
SeptemberStart Children’s Day promotionSchools and complexes decide slowly
Oct to DecSet aside cash reserve for the new yearIt is when there is money to set aside
Oct to DecProspect companies, schools and complexes for Jan-AprIt is when contact is active
Oct to DecCollect testimonials and marketing materialThe operation is running and producing footage
Jan to AprKeep the campaign running, with a different messageLess competition; learning preserved
Jan to AprSell advance bookings for the next peakCash today, calendar later
Jan to AprWeekday promotionsThe calendar is empty anyway

The third row is the hardest to execute and the one that most changes the following year: prospecting while busy takes discipline, which is exactly why almost nobody does it.

What to sell when there are no birthdays

The audiences that do not follow the children’s party calendar:

  • Corporate events and staff parties, which decide slowly and pay more
  • Schools and residential complexes, with their own dates and planned budget
  • Smaller commemorative dates, not dependent on a weekend
  • Advance packages for October and December, at a locked price

And one format usually forgotten: weekdays with their own terms. Tuesday’s calendar is empty all year; offering a better price there does not burn Saturday’s value, which is where the demand sits.

Why not switch off the campaign

The intuitive response to falling revenue is cutting marketing. In this sector that has two bad effects.

The first is learning: switching off erases the campaign’s history, and restarting in March means beginning from zero just as the year returns — paying a premium per conversation in the month competitors came back.

The second is the cycle: a children’s party is booked 1 to 3 months ahead. Cutting ads in January empties March and April, not January. The damage appears later, when it is no longer possible to link it to the decision that caused it — reasoning detailed in how long until the first booking from paid ads.

Calendar checklist

  • Do I know my three weakest months last year, with numbers?
  • Did I set aside a cash reserve during the peak?
  • Is the campaign still running in the low season, with an adjusted message?
  • Do I have a specific offer for weekdays?
  • Is there a list of local schools, complexes and companies to prospect?
  • Does prospecting start in October rather than January?
  • Does Children’s Day promotion start on 1 September?
  • Do I have an advance package to sell in the low season?
  • Do equipment instalments fit January’s revenue, not November’s?

The last one separates a calm low season from a desperate one — and it is decided when buying the equipment, not when paying the instalment. The maths is in how much it costs to start a bounce house rental business.

In the low season, the channel that keeps working without consuming budget is the Google Business Profile — and it is exactly when there is time to get it in order. The routine is in Google Business Profile for party rentals.

Frequently asked questions

Should I switch off the campaign in January to save money?

It is the intuitive reaction and usually expensive, for two reasons. First, switching off erases the campaign's learning, and restarting in March means beginning from zero exactly as the year returns. Second, there is less competition bidding for space in the low season, which tends to make reach cheaper. What changes off-season is not on or off: it is the message and the audience.

What can I sell from January to April?

Whatever does not follow the children's birthday calendar: corporate events, activations at schools and residential complexes, staff parties, and the smaller commemorative dates. It is also the window to sell advance bookings — a package closed now for a second-half date, at a locked price, which solves cash today and calendar later.

Does discounting in the low season fix it?

Price is the easiest lever to pull and the hardest to undo: whoever drops in January struggles to return to the number in October. Alternatives that preserve the rate card are weekday promotions — when the calendar is empty anyway —, bundles that raise the ticket, and advance packages for the peak.

When should promotion for Children's Day start?

On 1 September, focused on schools and residential complexes. The 12th of October is the sector's biggest peak in Brazil, and school and complex decisions are slower than family ones — whoever starts in October arrives after the budget has already been committed.
