Google or Meta: where to start with party rentals

What changes between advertising on search and on the feed for an inflatable rental business, and which one fits the size of your city.

In short On Meta a conversation costs between R$4 and R$7; on Google, between R$10 and R$12. Google costs more because it delivers people already searching for a rental, while Meta reaches people still imagining the party. For most rental companies the answer is to start on Meta — and Google tends to pay off only in Brazilian cities from around 100,000 inhabitants.

The question shows up in nearly every first meeting: “is it better to advertise on Google, on Instagram, or both? Which one first?”

The short answer is that both work and do different jobs. The useful answer depends on the size of your city.

Figures below come from the Brazilian market, in reais.

Google costs roughly double, and that is not a defect: it delivers people who have decided to book and are comparing suppliers. Meta delivers cheaper volume, earlier in the decision.

The question that decides it: how big is your market

Google only works if people are typing. In a small city, search volume for “trampoline rental” simply does not exist in sufficient quantity — the campaign under-delivers, cost per conversation spikes, and the wrong conclusion is that “Google does not work”.

The reference observed in the niche is around 100,000 inhabitants. Below that, focus falls on Meta. Above it, Google starts to make sense, and in capital cities it usually makes a lot.

It is not an absolute rule — a tourist town or a metro region with many small cities packed together changes the maths — but it is the starting point.

Why not start with both

Splitting a small budget across two platforms leaves both below the volume needed to stabilise. With R$600 divided, neither gathers enough data, cost per conversation rises in both, and by month-end there is no way to know which one worked.

The sequence that works:

  1. Concentrate on Meta until the campaign stabilises and cost per message enters the R$4 to R$7 range
  2. Adjust creative and handling with that volume
  3. Only then open Google, with its own budget rather than a sliced one

The reasoning on how much to put in at each stage is in ad budget for a party rental business.

What changes in handling

It is worth knowing where each message came from, because the conversation differs:

From Google tends to come a direct question — availability on the date, price of a specific item. This is someone comparing. Answering quickly with price and availability closes.

From Meta comes more people still imagining: asking what exists, requesting photos, wanting ideas. They convert too, but need more guiding — and this is where follow-up matters, because the decision cycle for a children’s party runs 1 to 3 months ahead of the date.

Treating both identically is the mistake that makes one platform look like it “brings bad leads”.

A Meta detail that confuses people

On message ads, around 90% of clicks go straight to WhatsApp, never passing through your profile. This is the dark post.

Which means:

  • Instagram can look dormant while the campaign delivers normally
  • follower count does not grow alongside message volume
  • whoever arrives never saw your profile, only the ad — so the first message has to do the work of introducing you

None of this is a problem. It becomes one when someone judges the campaign by profile activity, which is a different thing.

Checklist before choosing

  • Does my city have the size to sustain search on Google?
  • Does my budget support two platforms, or one well-fed?
  • Is cost per message on Meta already between R$4 and R$7?
  • Can I tell where each incoming message came from?
  • Does handling differ between search traffic and discovery traffic?
  • Do I have enough creative for Meta, which consumes more variation?
  • Have I fixed response time before increasing reach?

That last line matters more than the platform choice. Neither fixes an unanswered message.

The practical answer

For most rental companies, start on Meta and consider Google once the operation is tuned. Not because Google is worse — it delivers better people — but because it requires a market with search volume and a budget that is not split.

There is a third channel that competes with neither, because it has no budget: the Google Business Profile, covered in Google Business Profile for party rentals.

And before deciding platform at all, it is worth checking what each party leaves over — the maths is in how much it costs to start a bounce house rental business.

Frequently asked questions

If Google converts better, why not start there?

Because converting better is not the same as being viable. Google depends on people typing a search, and in a small city that volume simply does not exist — the campaign under-delivers and cost per conversation spikes. Meta does not depend on search: it shows the ad to people matching the profile, even if they have not thought about searching yet.

Can I run both on a small budget?

You can, but it rarely pays off early. Splitting R$600 across two platforms leaves both below the volume needed to stabilise, and the result is paying a premium in two places. The sequence that works is concentrating until the first one stabilises, then opening the second with its own budget.

What changes practically for whoever handles the messages?

The type of question. Google traffic tends to know what it wants and asks about availability and the price of a specific item. Meta traffic is more often still imagining the party — asking what exists, requesting photos, taking longer to decide. Both convert; the handling is what needs to differ.

Does the Meta ad show on my profile?

On message ads, generally not. Around 90% of clicks go straight to WhatsApp without passing through the feed — what is known as a dark post. That explains the sensation that Instagram is dormant while the campaign is delivering, and it is normal.
